The STEP-education Lapua campus is located on a very scenic location in the heart of town of Lapua, near services and connections.

There are around 300 students on campus both full-time and part-time (our part-time students are multiform, meaning that they study at workplace and therefore are on campus only few days a month). There are about 30 employees on campus, of which 13 are teachers. The campus teaching facilities are modern and campus has a school cafeteria for students and staff – cafeteria meals are praised for their taste and quality.

Some of our students stay in the college's dormitory, which has up to 70 beds available. The dormitories are quite comfortable and nice and also offer various possibilities for students’ free time activities. Dormitory housing is free for most full-time students.

The campus is located close to the business district of Lapua. On campus the Nurmo river, a beautiful park area and a campfire place give rise to having collegiate and memorable moments with fellow students.

Our exact address is Siiriläntie 11-13, 62100 Lapua, Finland.

Accommodation
The dormitory is free of charge during the course of studies.

Meals are free for dormitory students on weekdays (breakfast, lunch and dinner). On weekends and when school cafeteria is closed (national holidays such as independence day) students are responsible for their own meals (kitchenettes are located within dormitories for student’s own cooking).

The dormitory has a dormitory supervisor Mon-Fri evenings, but there is no supervision at night time. For smaller emergencies during night time, there is school’s own on-call service, thru which one can get help if needed. For bigger emergencies (24/7) the number to call in Finland is 112.

The dormitory counselor organizes free time activities for the students who stay and live in dormitory. Living in dormitory requires - but also develops - independence and requires assisted self-sufficiency.

Study facilities
The teaching facilities are modern, and students are offered ICT equipment (laptop computer) as needed to support their studies. Students can use comfortable lounges for studying as well as the campus library.

Students have also the opportunity to practice sports, play music etc. on campus after classes.

Student support and student well-being
Students have access to student care services, which include health care (school nurse), school social worker and school psychologist services. In addition, the campus has a student care supervising committee whose goal is to improve the general well-being of students.

Progress of studies is supported by Finnish as a second language/Suomi toisena kielenä -guide and student care services. If additional support is needed during studies, a Study Club (Opintoklubi) meets weekly on campus where support is provided by a special teacher and a professional instructor. In general – and additionally – student’s home class teacher and the teacher of the degree area help with studies whenever necessary.

About studies

For each and every student, a PCDP is developed (=personal competence development plan). Studies proceed according to one’s own individual and personal plan. When forming the plan with your guiding teacher, your previous education and work experience heavily influence the plan. Main idea in forming the PCDP is that each student is to focus on areas that they need to grow in and not so much in content that they already have mastered.

Depending on the previous work experience of the individual student, there are up to six internship periods during studies. These internships are served without salary and are part of the course of the student’s studies.

In the studies there are exams when needed. The content of the exams depends on the part of the degree and the teacher, as well as the student's goals. In addition to exams, learning progress and skills are demonstrated on-job and by learning assignments, projects and learning diaries.
