Parkano High School

Overview

Our school building is new and modern technology is used daily. Students are provided a laptop and school materials free of charge. We are a moderately small school where all teachers know their students individually and it’s easy to contact teachers directly.

In addition, our students can elect to combine their academic studies with esports, floorball, ice hockey, and/or performing arts. 

Weather changes according to the seasons. In autumn, it can rain from time to time. It is cold and snowy in winter. In spring, the sun starts to warm up and average temperatures rise. There are a few warm periods in the summer.

In winter the coldest temperature is about -25 degrees C and in summer about +30 degrees C.

Our school is located in a small city called Parkano. We have 6200 inhabitants. The nearest restaurants, parks, bus stations, gyms, and health care centers are all located in a 1km radius. We haven´t got a dormitory at the moment.

Study line - General study line

The Finnish upper secondary school line leads to a Matriculation examination and a degree.

Academic studies can be combined with a special focus on esports, floorball, ice hockey, or performing arts. Esport, floorball, and ice hockey 

Expenses

Free tuition, laptop, lunch, learning materials, textbooks, e-learning environment, student healthcare, and tutor.

The price varies depending on the size of the apartment and how many people live there. The rent is about 500€-600€/month + eclectic. The monthly cost is lower if more than one person shares the apartment and costs.

Accommodation

Accommodation depends on available rental apartments. The city of Parkano has rental apartments, that students can apply for. Some of the apartments are one-bedroom apartments and some of them are two-bedroom apartments shared with a roommate. The apartments are quite close to the school (600m-1,5 km). The nearest grocery store is about 600m from school.

An outside housing company is in charge of providing students with accommodation.

We have a support person who is available at any time.

Other

There is one international student at this moment, but we have had 1-2 students every year.

For the exchange program, Erasmus+ (until 2027), at no cost to the students, students can join at any time.

Universities or universities of Applied Sciences in Finland. We have guest lecturers from time to time.

Every student can have remedial education whenever a need for support occurs. Courses can also be retaken.

We have a student council that plans events and normally has orientation days at the beginning of the school year. Students can also find hobbies quite easily through sports or for example the board gaming club.
