Entrance examination for foreign students includes both oral and written parts. Exams are held online. Entrance examination is for those who have set Vocational College Lappia for the first place in application and who have delivered study certificates and motivation videos in time.

Holders of the Vocational Qualification in Social and Health care have wide-ranging basic capabilities for the different tasks in their occupational field and more specialised competence and the vocational skills required in the world of work in at least one competence area in working life activities.
A practical nurse with a Vocational Qualification in Social and Health care is a regulated professional under both the Act and Decree on Health Care Professionals and the Act on Social Care Professionals. Regardless of the competence area selected, holders of a Vocational Qualification in Social and Health Care are entered in the registers of social and health care professionals under the title of Practical Nurse, following the instructions of the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health, Valvira.

Competence area of Children’s and Youth Education and Care
The competence area in children’s and youth education and care produces competence to promote the child’s growth, wellbeing, and learning in early childhood education and care, and ability to promote the child’s, the adolescent’s, and the family’s health and wellbeing.
Competence area of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Work
The competence area in mental health and substance abuse work produces competence to work in mental health and substance abuse work and with the clients and networks in that field.
Competence area of Care and Rehabilitation for Elderly People
The competence area in care and rehabilitation of the elderly produces competence to work in home care in a manner that enhances the client’s functional capacity and promotes the social inclusion of the elderly.
Competence area of Nursing and Care
The competence area in nursing and care produces competence to promote the client’s health and ability to work in home care and nursing.
Competence area of Care for the Disabled
The competence area in care for the disabled produces competence to enhance the social inclusion of individuals with disabilities and to maintain and enhance their functional capacity.
According to the Act on Early Childhood Education and Care as well as the Government Decree on Early Childhood Education and Care the eligibility for a childcarer produced by the vocational qualification in social and health care has to include or it has to be completed with compulsory units producing competence for children’s and youth education and care. To a person who has completed the compulsory units that produce competence for the care for the disabled, it is adequate to complete only the Promoting a Child’s Growth, Wellbeing and Learning -unit.

MUONIO – AUTHENTIC LAPPISH VILLAGE IN THE HEART OF THE NATIONAL PARK
Muonio is surrounded by Finland’s most popular national park: Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Muonio is located at approximately 69 degrees latitude, directly under the Aurora Oval, a ring above the Earth’s Geomagnetic North Pole where the Aurora Borealis can be seen. During the Aurora season, you can witness the northern lights at least every other night. We welcome you to Muonio to enjoy nature and the local culture. We do not have crowds. CLEANEST AIR IN THE WORLD
Breathe in the cleanest air in the world. The air in Muonio has only 4 micrograms of particles whereas in the world’s dirtiest cities there could be almost 600 micrograms of particles in the air (WHO). An air quality monitoring station, located in Sammaltunturi in Muonio, regularly measures the air that is then compared to the results of other monitoring stations around the world. These stations produce valuable data on the state of the world’s environment.
The local tap water is safe to drink. In Finland tap water has been found to be even significantly cleaner than bottled water.
WINTER THAT LASTS SEVEN MONTHS
We have snow in Muonio in winter. The ski season begins in the middle of October as the “first snow track” opens. The first snow usually falls by the end of October at the latest, and the winter season usually lasts until mid May (Finnish Meteorological Institute snowfall averages).

Holders of vocational qualification in social and health care can work in different tasks in nursing and care, services for the elderly and persons with disabilities, mental health and substance abuse work, home care, families with children, and in different tasks in outpatient and institutional care in social and health care. They may work in basic health care and specialised medical care, for example, on inpatient wards, in outpatient clinics, terminal care, home care, or hospital services at home. Their jobs may be found in the public, private, or third sector. Qualification holders may also work as entrepreneurs.
